Can SailViewer run on IOS devices?

At this point, SailViewer can run only on Android devices. In order to keep the app improving and to have the flexibility to fix and add new features, having only a single platform is crucial. Since the device with the app is usually shared between the crew members or training partners and their coaches, it is anyway recommended to have a single tablet for this purpose. And even the entry-level cheap Android tablet can run the app.

    Logging

Which device do I need for logging data?

For GPS logging any device that can track and export GPS track can be used. So smartwatches with GPS on them, any phone fitness tracking app…

For logging extra data (including heel and pitch) android smartphones can be used with the Sail Logger app.

Apart from this one, SailMon, Trusail, and Vakaros devices can also provide all of that data.

Deckman, Faro, Airmar log files can also be opened.

SailViewer also reads Cyclops Marine .csv files, which is useful for getting data from any of Cyclops Marine load sensors.

    Importing files

How do I import files from Trusail Device?

    – inside the original Trusail app, select and export the Excel files. On the question the app asks you while exporting, select “No”. In the root folder of your device, you will have .csv files. Those can be imported into the app. Two file types get exported. Make sure you use .csv files without .exp.csv extension. From the app, you can import them via …/Import Logs menu or “Import” button.

How do I import SailMon files?

Just have your SailMon .CSV files on your device. From the app you can import them via the “Import” button. The SailMon app can also create the link that you just need to send to your SailViewer device and get the file from it.

How do I import Vakaros Files?

Export .CSV file and send it to your SailViewer device. Then use the “Import” button or just share it from whatever app you used for getting it on the device.

How do I import files from fitness devices?

On most fitness devices, GPX files can be exported. Most of the time it is only possible to do it on the website of the fitness device manufacturer, via your account. You need to log into your account and export your exercise. Make sure that it is not only the route that you are exporting since it has no data of your training

I imported the GPX file, but it is not visible in the app.

While exporting the GPX from fitness devices, ensure you export the actual workout file and not just the route file. Route files have no timestamp data of your logged exercise, they only have points to create a route for the next time.

Can I import the file from Android Device file explorer?

Yes. From any file manager on your device, it is possible to select the files and, by using the Share option, select SailViewer as an app to share it.

What are the best ways to send files to the device

Logs can be received on the device by any messaging software. It can also be downloaded from the cloud. Once the app is installed, all other apps get the option to share the files directly into the SailViewer.

Some of the options recommended are using cloud storage or email. Also, the Telegram app can be used and you can install it on as many devices as you want.

Where are my logs stored and how to backup them?

All imported logs are in the internal folder of the app. They can be browsed in the folder of the device named Android/Data/com.ibsailing.trusailviewer/files. Once the app gets uninstalled, the files are deleted. In order to save those files, the easiest option is to use Menu/Log/Backup All Logs option. This will export the .zip file of all saved logs.
