Race Area

Start

Pin end favored. There were boats over, mostly mid line to pin end. After the start, the wind went even more left initially.

The position shown to the line is the position of Atlas device. So most probably all the boats with 0 or 1 meters behind were over. Even 2-3 is on the edge!!!

1st Upwind

Initial left shift had to be taken since soon after a big right came in, carrying boats all the way up. At the very end, left layline had some more left wind and has gained. At that point Forte and Alfie have lost from Chilly and Fumanchu. Left side never got that big right and had a long way to go upwind. African Queen went pretty much alone to the right and was in a big lead.

Left, then right and a bit left at the end
1. Big left, 2. Big right. Note how left side is red on starboard, never getting the right wind.
Forte has lost the signal a few times during the leg and was “unfortunately” in the lead so TTL graph is a bit messed up

Top Mark

Left shift at the top mark, bringing Chilly straight to the mark and pushing left boats over the layline. On the right side of approach, there was never that much left wind direction, so Forte and Alfie have lost.

1st Downwind

RIght shift and all the boats were gybing early. Privateer and Magpie did the best with gybing soon, but not at the mark. Triad is shown as best performing, but they miss a small bit of data at the beginning so is hard to say. Fumanchu went more left at the end and has overtaken Chilly that looked like going slower most of the time.

Gate Rounding

Again one of those exceptions when is OK to take disadvantaged mark. Rounding in big right and expecting the new left shift and ladder to change. Also, crossing the fleet going downwind on the way to the left shift can be tricky. Chilly rounding at the same time as Fumanchu even though quite behind them. So ending up more upwind, but losing it again once the wind shifted back left.

2nd Upwind

Wind pretty much moving to the left. Playing the left and even more important, approaching the top mark from the left was the key. Fumanchu gaining on African Queen. Of the other boats, Tango has done a great leg, taking favored gate, tacking and going left.

Wind mostly going left
big left on the top

2nd Downwind

The first boat took the longest time to make the leg and the last one was the fastest. A lot of compression with straight set initially going pretty slow. Of the boats in the pack, Tango again has gained a lot. Lisa also with a big climb. Exabyte gained pretty well with the early gybe.
