SailViewer Reports

SailViewer reports is a new service by Ivan Bulaja, the developer of the app and 7 times Olympic Games coach.

Ivan uses SailViewer to create race or training analytics, which are then presented to the teams. SailViewer is a sailing analytics app designed for fast yet powerful insights into sailing logs. Several top-level Olympic and big boat sailors and coaches use it.

Reports have been used in many regattas so far (SailGP, J70, Youth America’s Cup, Etchells, Club Swan 36, 6m, Scow, Moth, Melges 24, Optimist, ETF 26…) with great feedback. Among others, they have been utilized by Melges 24 World Champions, Etchells World Champions, J70 World Champions, and Swan 36 European Champions.

Reports are available for any number of boats included in a race. Fewer boats allow for more detailed analysis, while more boats provide additional data, offering insights into what was happening across the race area.

Reports include:

Race Area Analytics: Position on the map, geographical effects, course skewness, and other key details.

Start Line Data: Length, bias (in degrees and meters), and the start position of each boat, along with all relevant metrics.

Leg Analysis: Critical moments of each leg and noteworthy decisions, explained in detail. Includes screenshots of each leg with relevant data for comparing boat performances. Another screenshot shows boat performance, color-coded on the track to highlight gain or loss sections.

Mark Rounding Performance: Analysis of gate bias, time spent rounding marks, and any significant rounding performances.

Short Animations: Visual summaries of each leg and other interesting moments.

The only task for the team is to send the log file of the day. The app accepts log files from all major hardware brands.

Reports are delivered in the fastest possible time. Teams typically receive them before the next day’s racing begins. If there is no major time zone difference, a report for three races is usually ready in about three hours. The first race of the day is often completed in approximately one hour.
