Race Area

Start

Pretty strong RC bias that just had to be taken. Boats mid line were sacrificing some meters at the gun.

some boats shown a touch over. USA 311 the most and they got recalled, so I guess the ping was a bit behind the line.

1st Upwind

The race started in right shift of 103 degrees. So was important to keep on going on starboard. Once the 1st left shift arrived, the boats that took it were in the front. Boats ignoring fell back.

Boats taking first lefty (marked green) vs the ones that ignored it (marked red)
Kuai with the best first leg. Playing the shifts the best.
No maneuvers and the last 100m to the mark. Pure straight-line stats.

Top Mark

Brass and USMM(311) early at the right hand side layline. Looking at the 311 track, clearly over the layline. I would always recommend to thy to approach the mark differently. Of course, sometimes there is no other way, but often there are better solutions.

1st Downwind

Both Gameck and GhostRd have snatched the lead for a moment from Kuai, but kuai managed to get it back at the end of the leg.

Seems like speed is everything on the downwind. Going faster also makes you go lower and if you are in a good shift with high speed, your VMG is almost matching your speed. In the table is visible that the faster the boats are, the better they perform. Looks like the fast boats also have some more heel. Keeping the boat more under pressure and resisting to bear away too much. Probably they also luff earlier, even before the boat starts losing speed.

Great speed and angle, by three leading boats. Most of others either in the lull or under the layline bottom right.

14+ knots of speed, resulting in sometimes over 12 knots of VMG. GhostRd, Kuai and Shaka

Gate Rounding

Just a bit better left mark, MSun and GameCk gaining a bit with good rounding.

Big difference in 100m to and from the mark timings. GhostRd losing more than 20 seconds to Gamecock
Some boats still managed to keep full planing speed in the last 100m to the mark. Note the huge difference on the downwind VMG

2nd upwind

2nd upwind was defined by the left shift especially hitting the boats going more left. Sentinel, Shaka, USMM and MBlue got a short big right shift that helped them get back to left.

Wind moving left overall

The left shift caused all the boats approaching the top mark from the right to be pretty red colored

Clean upwind sailing, no 100 from the marks and no maneuvers

2nd Downwind

Was a bit of surprise to see all te boats gybing early since there was a left shift in the upwind before. I cannot see the gusts so I guess there was a good reason to do it. The course also ended up a bit skewed so there was more sailing on starboard tack.

MSun did an amazing downwind, gaining more than half a minute to the others.

Getting successfully to full speed mode ends up with big rewards. So it mostly pays to give it a try. Sailing more aggressively into the gusts and using them to their full potential.
