    Forecast

Increasing and going left at 16:00

    Start

Slight pin end bias of only 4 degrees, is almost not noticable, but still creates 40m of difference. It also looks like boats that started well in the middle to RC had more right wind direction and were sailing higher. Stubb, Arete and Good2Go had the best start at the pin, but Arete got rolled later on. In the middle Sail Racing and Solyd sailed well, Solyd catching up on the leaders. Close to the pin, Noticia lost some distance after the start, but a bit later was also gaining back on the leading boats.

All boats pretty close to the line, but no one over

    1st Upwind

Big permanent left shift. Only one way to go, right boats had a long way against the shift to the top. Many left boats ended up over the layline as the wind kept on shifting. Stubb has lost the most there since they were the one ahead, but went way over the layline. Solyd, Noticia and Good2Go got the best tacking position.

Clear wind bend. Note that the wind set for the leg is the average wind. So it shows as rightie at the bottom.

The wind went from 145 to approximately 120 degrees

    Top Mark

Solyd has arrived exactly at the layline, taking a lot of seconds from everyone else. Some boats were quite extremely over, sailing so many more meters to get around the top mark.

    1st Downwind

With left wind it was pretty much a one way downwind, skewed to ratio of 1.9:1 more sailing on starboard. Boats trying to gybe early didn’t ended up well. At the back of the pack boats managed to sail lower on starboard and those were the ones with the fastest leg (Jelvis, Disco Volante, Solid Fun). In the front, boats were catching up on Solyd that gybed a bit early. Early gybe in the fleet going one way takes you to no wind. Sassy has been moch more slow than anyone else when they tried it. In light winds, there is nothing under the fleet.

Finding good gybing spot was the key.

    Leeward Rounding

Not much bias. All about rounding the marks smooth and getting where you want to go.

    2nd Upwind

The wind has stopped turning and played around 125 degrees. Top three have extended by going left again. It is interesting to see that 4th best boat on this leg was Jelvis that went quite right and arrived alone on the right layline. They mostly gained in the 2nd part of the leg. Again some boats on the left side got pushed over the layline. With many boats going there, if you are in the back, you either have to go right early or over the layline.

    1. Nice gains for Jelvis. probably due to being alone since the wind was going left overall. They also didn’t sail over the layline as much

    2nd Downwind

With top mark moved to the left and finish line at the RC, this downwind was skewed in the other direction than the first one. This has helped the boats that gybed on the earlier side. Also, more stretch in the fleet creates less wind shadow if you gybe earlier. Stubb did it and they had the best leg of the fleet. Tyra tried gybe setting but it didn’t work that well. It looks like the wind went a bit to the right on this leg.

    1. Early gybing boats getting green soon after the gybe
    2. Boats continuing were more red for longer.
