Start

It is not possible to set the perfect start line wind direction since it looks like RC boats were in more right wind than pin. Still, no matter to whose wind the line is set, it is biased a lot, favoring RC by approx 90 meters. Flirtation was the best at the gun, overtaken by 2107 Racing after a minute. Rogue was the best performing boat after the gun, getting closer to the leaders at all times. Once again, the boats called over are just at the line here, but start position timing here goes a bit in favor of sailing boats, so OCS call was pretty much spot on.

1st Upwind

The wind went right after the start, making the course pretty skewed. Since Etchells sails high angles, 15 degrees of difference between the wind and the mark already creates 2.3:1 ratio in sailing starboard vs port. So the key was to sail the long leg first and be patient till the wind goes back. Still, due to wind curving right initially, Triad put themselves in the best position with two tacks after the start. Later on the wind was shifting left and Rogue and USA1514 slowly pulled out and tacked ahead.

Arrows show the wind shifts
- curving to right a lot after the start
- Group in the higher right lane had some problems, headed more and slower.

THe wind going hard right after the start, then back left throughout the leg.

Top Mark

Rich getting richer scenario. Boats in the front extending.

1st Downwind

The leaders extending by doing the straight set and sailing to the corner. Magpie managed to catch up well on Triad and got ahead of them from leeward. Course still skewed, twice as much more sailing on port tack. Gybeset is quite an expensive maneuver, all the boats doing it sailing slow and high at first.

Gybeset is quite red. After the straight set boats went pretty low and fast.
Gate Rounding

Big 23m of gate bias. The best example is Racing vs Flirtation, just swapping places. Flirtation gained 25 seconds on Racing. Just count to 25 and imagine another Etchells sailing while you are not.

2nd Upwind

The wind was going right the whole leg and it was all about going right early. Rogue tacked twice and gained on USA 1514. Triad also had a solid upwind. The best time was sailed by Thelastone, they rounded favored gate and tacked to the right soon after.

Clear curve to the right.

2nd Top Mark

2nd Downwind

Magpie and 1514 gaining on Rogue and Triad by doing an early gybe. The leg was almost straight line on port tack. The other solid performing boat was RacerCC. The wind kept going right and was at 190 at the end of the leg. Allowing windward boats to roll over.

2nd Gate Rounding

Two leading boats both had pretty bad rounding. Rogue went wide around and 1514 has slowed down a lot. Most of the fleet went to the windward mark, doing the left turn. Still, some went the long way around to the other one and have lost a lot.

3rd Upwind

Looks like much more stable leg. Triad and Rogue were the best, playing the middle. Magpie lost a lot due to three tacks after the mark. Racer CC had another solid leg. The wind went a bit to the left overall, allowing Rogue to defend the lead and extend a bit more at the end.
