Getting less parallel to the shore with the left shift.
Start
Even start line. Vigilant has hooked and blocked New Wave from starting, losing a bit themselves also while doing it. Boats drawn are in real size. Hull shapes probably a bit too wide.
1st Upwind
Gamecock did the best start and after-start speed. They popped out ahead and used the constant left shift to stay in front and on top of the other boats. Defiant was the only one matching on long port tack, even gaining towards the end of it. On the way to the mark, Vigilant got tacked on and has lost quite a lot to New Wave. If behind, it is recommended to tack earlier, just to have an option of two more if killed. Also then you can come to the top mark from the left, with no need to aim at the layline from far away. Defiant also dropped a lot with two extra tacks.
Top Mark
New Wave is better than Vigilant, even with an extra tack.
1st Downwind
Defiant and New Wave gaining on the leader at all times. With pretty much the same path, this can mean there is some performance issue for Gamecock. Vigilant lost at hoist and first meters, than gained well after the gybe and lost again on the way to the marks.
Gate Rounding
20m of gate bias. New Wave took the better mark and has gained a lot, 17 seconds to Vigilant. It is always nice to see the animation with two leading lines separating as one boat goes upwind while another one still going down. The loss comes at 2x VMG rate at those moments. Pretty big and hard to notice since helm and crew are all busy dropping and rounding.
2nd Upwind
The wind has been shifting right and New Wave has lost quite some meters on the way from left to right. Still they don’t have the worst time since they had 20m less upwind to sail due to the gate bias. Defiant lost some while tacking two times at the beginning. Also, they went way over the left layline, only partly because pushed by Gamecock.
Top Mark
With Gamecock over the left layline, Defiant could tack a bit earlier. No need to go that far.
2nd Downwind
Almost the same performance for all the boats. Nothing significant happened.
