Race Area
Start
Bias of 92m, just has to be taken. There is no way to catch that back unless big right shift comes. Almost all the boats in double digits behind the leader. Some over than 80m behind. Taking the pin end start meant that the race was practically over at the start.
1st Upwind
Slight right and then wind going left. Left winning, but the leaders went over the layline, especially with the wind going left. Everyone that went even further had a long way to the top mark. AMac and Alfie with big lead after the gun. Lost a big part of it to Magpie because of sailing over the layline.
Top Mark
Many boats arriving on port. Some couldn’t jump in and went all the way down around the starboard boats. Ada and Jindivik with the biggest bearaways.
1st Downwind
Wind going left, giving gains to gybe set or earlier gybing boats. There are two groups of boats with a gap in between. Magpie gaining with earlier gybe. Gybeset Exabyte, Lisa and ChillyB (all red colored boats) with the best downwind.
Gate Rounding
One of the best examples of gate bias gains and losses. With the left shift, it would be expected that the right turn mark is favored, but this was not the case this time. The marks were 100m apart creating quite advantage to the left turn mark. AMac also didn’t do the best rounding, going pretty wide around. Quite often those losses are not noticed since crews are busy rounding. This can lead, once realizing the boat on the other side has gained, into thinking that the other side of the course was favored and into wrong conclusions, even though the whole loss came just from the mark bias.
2nd Upwind
A bit of right wind at the beginning and then shifting left at the end. With the new mark quite left, it was better to take the longer leg first. Magpie controlled AMac even though AMac gained from leeward left. Still enough advantage to stay in front and push them to the layline and keep the lead. Pie did very good upwind, gaining on GWH who did too many tacks.
2nd Top Mark
2nd Downwind
Even though the wind shift was on the left side, the new mark and the position od the RC boat made the leg almost straight line on port tack. Boats were more/less sailing in line with the boats that have gybed late or tried to sail lor on port tack losing to the ones on top of them. AMac and Fumanchu lost to nearby boats.
