SailViewer Subtitle Guide

SailViewer app can export subtitle files that can be overlayed on the videos that match the time of the log. Any values measured or calculated can be presented.

To be able to create the subtitle files, app needs to know the name, start time and duration of the video.

There are multiple ways for the app to get this data, depending on the devices used for recording the videos and the device that has video files.

Video Files on Android Phone

Download and install VideoGrab app for Android from here.

Run the app and click the Grab Videos button. Choose the videos you want to use. Metadata marks end checkbox needs to be checked if the phone puts the end tiimestamp of the video in the file metadata. This can always be fixed later in the SailViewer app if wrong. For example Huawei phones mark end and iPhone marks the start.

After grabbing the videos, you get the option of sending a .txt file with the information that can be imported into the SailViewer. Also the app presents the QR code which is easy to scan via SailViewer “Subtitle Dialog” Import Vi/From QR.

Video Files On iOS devices (iPhone, iPad)

Download and install the free VideoGrab for SailViewer app from AppStore.

Before grabbing the videos, you need to export them to files from your Photo Gallery.

Click On Select
Drag over the files you want to add. Click the Share icon on the bottom left of the screen.
Click Save to save the videos on iPhone as files
Click “Select Videos”
Choose the videos you want to add
Scan the QR from SailViewer App. You can also copy it as text to the clipboard and send it as text. On the SailViewer device, copy the same text to the clipboard and use Menu/Subtitles/Import Vi/From Clipboard option

To scan the QR code use the SailViewer App Menu/Subtitles/Import Vi/From QR Code.

Video Files On MacOs Device

Download the SailViewer VideoGrab for Mac from here: https://apps.apple.com/hr/app/sailviewer-videograb/id6447236225?mt=12

Launch the app. Click Select Videos button, select your videos and you will get the QR code that can be scanned from SailViewer app’s Menu/Subtitle/Import Vi/From QR as described for the iOS devices. The same text can also be exported to clipboard and then sent to the device running SailViewer.

Videos are on the device running the SailViewer App

Go to Menu/Subtitles/Import Vi/From Video FIles. Select the videos and they will be added to the app.

Exporting Subtitles

Once the Video Info is successfully uploaded, it will be listed on the Subtitles Window.

If you click on Files WIndow “Refresh” button, all the Logs that have associated videos will be having “Video” written under the info.

Videos will also be added as Events to the App. So it is possible to see the video files names on the graph screen at the exact time they were taken. You can hide and show them by pressing the Video Button.

To export the subtitles, go to …/Subtitle/Export Subtitle. The export subtitle dialog will show up where you can choose the values and also on the right side the averaging time for the values in seconds (if you don’t want to numbers to change too quickly). Also, make sure that you have set the wind direction if creating the subtitle that includes any value that is calculated based on the wind direction/speed.

Subtitles Value and Averaging Times Dialog

After clicking OK, the subtitles files will be created. The app will ask in which way to share it. Once you get the “.ssa” files, you can open them automatically if you view your videos through the VLC player and you put the subtitles “.ssa” files in the same folder as your videos.

Adding Video Info From Mac OS via ExifTool

This is an older, alternative, and more complex way of loading the video than the new MacOS shown earlier.

Once done setup

Install the “ExifTool” on your Mac. You can find it here: https://exiftool.org/. Make sure you download the Mac OS version.

Drag the folder that has your videos into the Mac “Terminal” icon.

Another way is to have the terminal open and write cd followed by space and then drag your folder into the window.

In terminal type following exiftool *.* -n -csv >videoinfo.csv

This Will create the text file named videoinfo.csv containing the data SailViewer needs.

Send the file to your SailViewer device and import it by: Menu/Subtitles There use Import VI/Import Vi From File and select your file. File can also be opened by Share or Open With straight from the app used to send it.
