High-level software for racing sailing

Ivan Bulaja founded SailViewer with a mission to revolutionise the world of competitive sailing. Frustrated by the lack of reliable information available during coaching sessions, he set out to create a solution that would provide sailors with accurate, rapidly available data.

About Ivan Bulaja

Ivan Bulaja is a Croatian sailor, coach, and software developer. His sailing career started at the age of 6, following his older brothers to the sailing club in ex-Yugoslavia. Growing up in a third-world country with access to limited resources, he learned to find solutions on his own (a recurring theme throughout his life).

Ivan was a successful Optimist sailor, winning several regional championships. He then joined his older brother Toni in the 470 class and they became the best in the country, winning the national championships 7 times in a row. Despite limited resources, they achieved some international success and qualified for the 2000 Sydney Games.

35+ Years of World-Class Experience

In 2002, Ivan shifted his focus to coaching, working with the Croatian and Austrian teams in the 470 and 49er, and participating in 6 Olympic Games. Under his guidance, the teams he coached have won multiple World and European Championship medals.

With extensive experience sailing on large boats, Ivan has achieved two podium finishes at the Barcolana Regatta, as well as being a two-time winner of the Venice Maxi Regatta. Currently, Ivan is still active in keelboat sailing and also coaching his teams in preparation for Paris 2024.

Creating a Better Solution

Ivan’s passion for coding started at the same time he started sailing, at the age of 6 years old when his father bought their family a computer. Throughout his sailing career, he continued to develop his coding skills, until 2018 when he became involved with TruSail sensors.

Ivan saw an opportunity to create a tool that would make it easier to extract more meaningful data from the sensors, filtering out any irrelevant or confusing information.

Actionable Insights in a Few Clicks

The result of Ivan’s efforts is SailViewer, a tool that simplifies the process of analyzing data, enabling sailors to focus on their performance on the water and get the most out of each training session. With SailViewer, Ivan aims to arm sailors with the insights they need to improve their performance and reach new heights.

As SailViewer was originally developed for Ivan’s own personal use as a coach, the tool is tailored to be as useful as possible for top sailing coaches and athletes. With no communication and explanation needed between the two separate worlds of high-performance sailing and app development, it is easier to implement exactly what is needed.

Bringing Pro-Level Sailing to All

Our goal is to provide sailors with immediate and accurate readings on their sailing sessions and make the app as user-friendly as possible. With simplicity and usability at its core, it’s no wonder that SailViewer has now become the go-to app for some of the world’s top sailors, including Santiago Lange, Šime Fantela, Igor Marenic, Anne-Marie Rindom, John Gimson, and Anton Dahlberg. These elite athletes trust SailViewer to provide them with the information they need to succeed.

At SailViewer, we’re committed to making the world of sailing more accessible and efficient for everyone. Our aim is to encourage organizers and World Sailing to share tracker data, so that even people without coaches can track their performance. Making this invaluable information accessible to all will reduce the gap between rich and poor.

We believe that with the right tools and insights, anyone can become a better sailor.
