Table of Contents

    Foiling Gybes Race 3

    • bringing enough speed, but entering with a bit high angle
    • Rate of turn on the faster side at the beginning, maybe slows down a bit at exit
    • Wing invert a bit earlier, higher clew catch. Twist mid fleet
    • Entering with cant 7.5 Some teams are at 5, some even more under than us
    • Cant stow on the inside. Cant drop target inside, but similar to most teams
    • Rudder avg on the lower side, RH going up with pitch up. Also looks like boats add rudders once bearing away, probably to keep the bow down.
    • Some don’t even bother to have max diff on (gbr). With max diff you get up to 0.4 deg of it for a short period and it goes back to zero as soon as accelerating.

    Downwind Straight Lines

    • mid fleet SOG, but highest angle
    • Heel on WW side (0.9LW). Fleet between 1LW and 2.5LW mostly
    • Most bow up (2.0 compared to 2.2 to 2.5)
    • Low rudder avg and low rake (matches bow up pitch)
    • canted on the inside (7.3). Probably can aim for a degree more outside on average
    • Quite low jib cunningham
    • Clew the lowest (just under mid line). mostly about half way up the pod

More detailed DB cant. NZL and GBR pushing it to around 2-3. We are more shy with pushing out than the rest of the fleet.

    Upwind Foiling straight lines

    • most bow down boat
    • on the ww heel side of the fleet (0.08L). NZL and DEN around 2WW.
    • Cant mid fleet
    • High rudder average
    • Lowest jib cunno, high jib sheet load
    • Clew to LW of the fleet (mid boat). Fleet mostly up half the pod.
    • Twist on lower side

    Race 3 gybe with GBR

    • USA entered with more speed
    • USA turned slower at first, faster later
    • USA heeled to new LW right afer crossing dead downwind, GBR a few seconds later
    • USA inverts later, twists sail more after dead downwind. GBR keeps the twist more in
    • GBR adds LW rake pre gybe. Could be just because flying lower at entry
    • GBR drops at cant 3. USA at 7
    • GBR starts canting in only after 7 seconds after dead downwind, lifts old board quickly
    • Similar rudder average during gybe, GBR no diff
    • GBR burps jib lead, USA sheet

Post Gybe (10 s after) where we started losing

    • GBR added rudders
    • GBR Ca1 26, USA at 22
    • GBR both foils higher AOA, WW more than LW
    • GBR canting from out all the way in. USA fixed at 7
    • GBR still not moving the jib, USA pulls it in. USA low jib cunno

    After the gybe
