2023 Cro Melges Cup Mornar, Race 1

Race Area

Race area was probably far enough from the shore, so no shore effect could be used. There was no significant current measured.

Start

Some pin-end bias. Still a short enough line that it was not the crucial point of the race. Joyrunner took the lead at the gun, being close to the line and a bit on the pin side. Zen was called over. 3m to the line in the log, but the logging device is a bit back from the bow. Pnt1 and Mataran were pretty slow at the gun, but still not so close to the line.

1st Upwind

The 1st upwind was defined by the left shift. Looking at the SWD based on the track of all the boats it went 10 degrees left.

The key point was to open the left side. Rzjrn and SuggarDaddy made it. Joyrunner had a great start, but could not hold the lane as well.

Blllb has made a solid comeback after being quite behind at the beginning of the leg.

Sgdd, bllb and mtrn were not having the logging device at the good place to log the heel numbers.

All the boats that were tacking to port soon did not use right side wind before it started shifting to the left side. Some were at the end a bit over the layline and losing from the left side approaching boats.
Clean sailing data. No maneuvers and 100m to the mark. VMG>3.7 filter

Offset

1st Downwind

Pretty steady wind. Mostly leading boats stretching except for Sgdd that has lost quite a lot and Mtrn that was gaining well.

Leeward Gate

There was a pretty small bias, a few meters better to round the left-hand mark (looking upwind).

100m to and from the turning point for each boat. Does not account for the gate bias. Rzjrn did it 13 seconds faster than Joyrnr

2nd Upwind

The wind continued to clock a bit left, especially towards the end of the upwind. So all the boats approaching the mark at the left layline were gaining.

left shift has skewed the upwind by 10 degrees.
great gains at the left layline and Zen and Bllb having a hard time coming to the mark from the right. Joyrunner also lost quite some meters by being in the middle at the end.
Clean sailing. No maneuvers and roundings. VMG>3.7kts

2nd Downwind

Pretty similar performances, with only 12 seconds between the fastest and the slowest boat.
