Moth Foiling Week, Race 7

Start

Just 20 seconds after the start, the fleet was running into a header that was much stronger at the pin-end side. GBR 44 at the RC stayed quite higher than the rest of the fleet below. All the boats that had to tack went back into the right wind and tacked again to the left. GBR 44 could stay and get lifted a lot on starboard. Things looked pretty bad for NED 47 who tacked immediately after the start. In the past days there was mostly no header like that next to the shore.

1st upwind

As being the only boat not to have to tack soon, GBR 44 has made it almost to the layline and gained ana advantage of 300m to the rest of the fleet. All the other boats had to tack two more times to make it to the favored left side.

1st Downwind

GBR 44 had quite a hard time after the left mark rounding and has lost that huge lead already at the next cross. Soon after, the best performing boats went the same way, but with better pressure and shift. From them NED47 had the fastest downind, being a full minute faster than the top mark leader.

2nd Upwind

Once again, it was typical upwind with the wind bend lifting the boats that went left on both tacks. NED47 suffered a big loss from the right and has sailed almost 1000m longer course than the best boats. NOR and GBR 68 had a solid 2nd beat.

2nd downwind

Wind shifting left has again created more difficult conditions for the downwind. The paths are going all around the place and the best performing boats were the ones that managed to stay in good pressure/shift.
