Start

There was some RC bias still with ITA 3 starting well at that side. GBR 4968 has started closer to the pin and has used a great upwind angle to pop up in the lead.

1st Upwind

Even though GBR 4968 was leading in the first part, the fact that it had to tack earlier on port brought it away from shore. This was due to the wind being more left than in the 1st race so boats were approaching the shore faster. ITA 3 could sail much longer to the shore, due to the high lane at the start and was leading at the top mark, despite one pretty bad tack. GBR 4968 also went over the layline after going left once more.

1st downwind

ITA 3 extended the lead due to the fact that GBR 4968 went around the right mark and had to gybe once extra. The group of 4 boats just behind was fighting for the 3rd place, with AUS 4900 winning at the end.

2nd upwind

The wind went even more left, causing the boats to hit the shore soon and make a long port tack toward the mark. However, this tack takes them too early outside, approx 400-500m away from the top mark and there is some loss on the final approach to the mark. They had to sail starboard far from shore and also were shooting the layline from far which always resulted in overstanding.
Due to this shift, GBR 4968 tactics of doing a short port first resulted in it going longer to the shore and having the quickest upwind leg.

2nd downwind

ITA 3 was losing a lot after a bad gybe. The wind was keeping the downwind much more complicated with many gybes needed to get to the finish.
