2023 Melges 24 Worlds, race 9

Start and 1st upwind

At the start, Melgina was 18m above Nefeli. Melgina has sailed quite quicker, but with the lower angle, having a bit lower VMG and slowly losing the lead over Nefeli.

Melgina then decided to tack. The wind direction was aroind 280 at that time, which is pretty much on the right side of the day. Nefeli continued and cought more left pressure on the left side of the course.

1st downwind

Nefeli extended at first, but on approach to the mark has lost some meters. This was already happening a few times and might be that there is a pattern of not the best gate approaches that can be reconsidered.

LW gate

there was 12m bias and Nefeli took the lower mark. If no specific reason to do it, the other one would be better.

2nd upwind

Another tricky and shofty upwind with quite middle wind at the gate. At the end Melgina has lost a bit after the tack on the right side, but soon got big lift and gust and has reduced the lead of Nefeli.

2nd downwind

Nefeli has increased the lead, only losing some meters righ after the gybe, but then gaining even more, rolling down fast and low after Melgina gybed
