Melges 24 Croatia Cup Trogir, Race 6

Start

There was quite a bias, favoring the pin end side with the wind at the start from the SE direction. However, the initial advantage of the boats that started left was lost due to the extremely better right side and significant right shift that has arrived later.

All the boats crossed the start line pretty late. The wind was light and with the left shift, the approach to the line was very slow. The first boat to cross was Razjaren, 5 seconds after the signal.

1st Upwind

Soon after the start, the right two boats (Panjic and Tutta Forza) found extra wind and a big right shift to jump into the lead. They soon recovered more than 60m of distance to the initial leading Razjaren. The wind was going even more right, allowing the boats that have tacked under the layline (Amorwave) to lay the mark from far under. All the boats heading to the left had a hard time reaching the top mark.

1st Downwind

With the wind so much to the right, all the boats were gybe setting. At the very end, Obi-Wan got left shift and had to sail a much longer distance to the downwind mark.

2nd upwind

The race area was more even and shifts and gusts needed to be used. Even the full left option of Obi-Wan was one of the fastest ways to the finish line.
