2023 J70 Worlds Race 8

Race Area

Start

Big bias to the pin end side. Leonteq was showed over the line already 9 seconds before the gun. Tyra popped up into the lead, being able to hold the line well.

1st Upwind

The right shift made Stampede winning the upwind even though they were starting mid line. Vamos and Swish saved it by having a solid opening part of the leg. Elvis and Tyra went the furthest left and lost the most.

Top Mark

Stampede making the mark and each square the size of 100m shows how much over the layline most of the boats went.

1st Downwind

Front boats had easier time and of the main group, early gybe gained. Wind shifte a bit left towards the end of the leg.

Looks like the train of straight set boats is a bit slower. Elvis did two gybes in a short time and went back under the fleet, also being red for the good part of the leg beginning.

Gate Rounding

A few boat lengths better left mark and Swish and Vamos overtake Jelvis and Cool Story.

100m to and from the rounding point. Cool Story suffered quite a lot.

2nd Upwind

Another right hand side gain. Jelvis could have been a big winner, but went way too far over the layline. Vamos Rowdy and Elvis were 2 minutes ahead of the left boats.

2nd Downwind

Looks like the wind at the bottom again went back left. So gybeset boats had an advantage. Jelvis and Elvis losing quite some meters.
